A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing through the latest issue of Glamour Magazine and spotted the title “Flower.”
It was a stunning image of a bouquet of blooming flowers, a few of which were wrapped around a large bouquet.
The title was a reference to the flower-shaped packaging for the first edition of The New Yorker magazine.
In a similar vein, it was also an image of an umbrella.
“I was inspired to write about flowers,” says M.M. Natarajan, a writer and designer in New York.
“And this time, I wasn’t using an umbrella but a bouquet.”
So what exactly was that inspiration for Nataraja?
“I had a lot of ideas of how I wanted to create something, and I thought of these two things,” she says.
“One is a bouche-shaped box.
The other is a book.
But I thought ‘what is the most beautiful thing that could be created with these two?’
And it’s flowers.”
The idea of creating a book, Nataras says, came to her from an old boyfriend.
“We’d talk about it.
He said, ‘I want a book for the wedding.
I want it to be beautiful.
I can’t imagine being a bride and having this book that you can’t get anywhere else,'” she recalls.
“So I thought that that’s how we’d do it.
It would be a box that would have the title, ‘Flower for a Wedding,’ inside it, and it would have a flower-sized cover.”
So the next time you’re shopping for a gift for your loved ones, make sure to include a boule of flowers in the box!
And when you’re browsing through an ad, don’t forget to take a look at the flowers inside!
