Posted June 12, 2018 09:11:11 A blue-faced nail design has become a favourite in Australia’s suburbs.
In fact, it’s been a staple for a generation.
The design is so ubiquitous it has its own Facebook page and its own Instagram account.
But the idea was inspired by an old adage, and has been popular since the 1930s.
The first blue nail designs were popular in the United States in the 1930’s and 1940’s, when the nail design was a popular colour for women to wear.
The style was created by American photographer Robert Capa, who was based in New York and had visited New York in 1933.
In his book American Beauty, Capa wrote about the designs, and how they were inspired by American women in the 1940s and 1950s.
One of his favourite images was of a young woman, in a blue polka-dot dress, holding a bottle of perfume in her hand.
“The colour is such a strong colour,” he said, “it looks almost like the blue sea, a deep blue sea.”
In New York, he was able to capture the style, and he was inspired to create a blue nail design using the blue water that had been available to him.
“I used this blue water in the water in New Orleans, and I used it in my paintings, and it really made my nails look blue,” Capa said.
“And I thought, ‘Oh my God, I have this in my portfolio.'”
Capa also used the colour blue in his work, but his blue nail work was more subtle.
The nail designs that have been used in Australia include the blue-eyed catfish (the type of catfish Capa grew up on), the blue sky, the blue tree, the white rose and the blue sandstone.
“A blue nail is a colour that is so strong, so much stronger than anything else that I have ever seen, and the reason why is because the water is so blue,” he explained.
“It has such a strength.”
When asked what was the inspiration behind the designs he said he wanted to create something different from the other designs he had done.
“That’s what inspired me to do this blue nail,” he added.
“But it wasn’t like this blue, I wanted to have a different colour.”
But the first blue-nailed nail designs Capa created didn’t last very long.
They were discontinued in 1949, but the popularity of the designs has continued to grow in recent years.
In 2014, a group of designers including Capa began a campaign called the Blue Nails Project.
The group wanted to help people see how the blue nail style was being used in the contemporary world.
“We started doing this project, we said, ‘Hey, this is a thing, this has the power to inspire people to change the way we do things’,” said designer James Leech.
“What we have found is that we have a lot of people who want to change things.”
“I think it’s about people saying, ‘Why don’t we take it up a notch?'”
Leech said.
The Blue Nail Project is now trying to get people to rethink the way blue is being used.
“This is a blue that is being worn, and we want to do something about that, because blue is such an iconic colour in the world, and that’s the only colour that has a power to change people’s lives,” Leech explained.
A group of artists and designers have been working on a blue nails app, and Leech believes it is going to have an impact.
“When people are inspired by this, they’re going to start seeing the other colours,” he told ABC Radio Melbourne.
“If people don’t see that, then they’ll start looking at the blue.”
